Abdullah Asım Divleli
Asst. Prof. | Department of Architecture

Head of Department of Architecture

He was born in Istanbul in 1982. He graduated from Selçuk University, Department of Architecture in 2005. He wrote his master’s thesis titled “Facades Analysis of Traditional Turkish House: The Sample of Istanbul-Zeyrek Haydar Neighborhood” at the same university. He completed his doctoral study titled ” Historiography and Architecture in the Construction of Arab Nation Identity: The Case of Egypt ” at Mardin Artuklu University. Since his graduation in 2005, he has done architectural projects and applications in Turkey and abroad. He worked at Mardin Artuklu University between 2010-2022. He worked as a researcher at the University of Jordan in 2015-2017 and at the International Islamic University of Malaysia in 2017-2018. His academic interests are refugee and space, nationalism and architecture, and modern Arab architecture of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Emin Selçuk Taşar

Associate Dean

He graduated from Mardin Artuklu University, Department of Architecture in 2011. He obtained his Master of Architecture from the same university in 2015 with his thesis titledWhat Are We Actually Talking: A Discourse Analysis on Mosque Debates in Turkey (20092013); He also received his doctorate in 2020 with his thesisWriting, Classification and Characterization: City and Architecture in Evliya Çelebi‘s Travel Book. He worked at Siirt University (2013) and Mardin Artuklu University (20132021). He has been a faculty member at Samsun University since March 2021.

Evrim Düzenli
Asst. Prof. | Department of Architecture

Completed the B.Arch. degree at the Karadeniz Technical University, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture. Received her MSc. with the thesis titled “A research about the existential space in modern church building” and the Ph.D. with the “The spatial construction of the modern thought in the Republican Period (1923-1960): The Trabzon case in the context of center-periphery” . Employed as a faculty member in Karadeniz Technical University between 2002-2009, Mardin Artuklu University between 2009-2015, Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University between 2015-2018, Istanbul Sehir University between 2018-2020. Since 2020, she is continuing her studies in Samsun University. Major research interests include; modern architecture and urban history, architecture in late Ottoman Empire and Republican periods of Turkey.

Halil İbrahim Düzenli

He graduated from Karadeniz Technical University, Department of Architecture in 2000. He received his master title with the thesis entitled “Analysis of Form, Function, Structure and Meaning in Turgut Cansever Projects in the Context of Architectural Autonomy and Civilization Self-Comprehension Concepts” (original title: “Mimari Otonomi ve Medeniyet Ben-idraki Kavramları Bağlamında Turgut Cansever Projelerinde Biçim, İşlev, Yapı ve Anlam Analizleri”) (2005) and his doctoral degree with the thesis entitled “Architect Mehmed Ağa and His World: An Essay on the Interpretation of 16th and 17th Century Ottoman Mindset Patterns and Architecture through Risâle-i Mi‘mâriyye” (original title: “Mimar Mehmed Ağa ve Dünyası: Risâle-i Mi‘mâriyye Üzerinden 16. ve 17. Yüzyıl Osmanlı Zihniyet Kalıplarını ve Mimarlığını Anlamlandırma Denemesi”) (2009) at the same university. He worked at Karadeniz Teknik University (2001-2009), Mardin Artuklu University (2009-2015), Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University (2015-2018) and Istanbul Şehir University (2018-2020). He has been a faculty member at Samsun University, Faculty of Architecture and Design since July 2020.

His research areas are: Architectural historiography, Architecture in Islamic Context, 16-17. Century Ottoman Architecture, 20-21. Century Architectural Theories and Practices, Turgut Cansever, Horizontal City, Urban History of Trabzon, Mardin and Istanbul.

Aside the books İdrak ve İnşa: Turgut Cansever Mimarlığının İki Düzlemi (Klasik 2009; 2019), Trabzon Kent Mirası: Yer-Yapı-Hafıza (with Ö.İ.Tuluk, Klasik 2010) and Cumhuriyet Döneminde Ümraniye: Şehirleşme, Toplum, Ekonomi ve Yönetim II (with Y.Uğur, S.Aslaner, A.Arlı, E.Yücesoy, Ümraniye Municipality 2019), he has contributed the following books as editor: Bir Mimari Deneyim: Trabzon ve Sarayevo’da Mahalle / Jedan Graditelski Pokusaj: Mahale u Trabzonu i Sarajevu (Nüans 2007), Trabzon Kent İçi Kültür Varlıkları Envanteri (with H. Hande Eyüboğlu
Research Assistant | Department of Interior Architecture

She completed her undergraduate education at Karadeniz Technical University, Faculty of Architecture, Department of Interior Architecture between 2013-2017. She started her master’s degree with thesis at Karadeniz Technical University, Faculty of Architecture, Department of Interior Architecture in 2017 and completed her master’s thesis titled “Old Age, Aging in Place and Housing” in 2021. In the same year, she started her doctorate education at Karadeniz Technical University, Faculty of Architecture, Department of Architecture and still continues. Since 2019, she has been working as a research assistant at Samsun University, Faculty of Architecture and Design, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design. Working areas: Housing, Design, Re-functioning, Sustainability.

Melek Kutlu Divleli
Lecturer | Department of Architecture

Graduated from Selçuk University, Department of Architecture in 2006. Completed her master’s degree at Marmara University, Department of Islamic History and Arts with her thesis titled “Seven Mosques in 2000’s Istanbul” (2011). Studied classical and modern Arabic at Jordan / Amman Qasid Arabic Institute between 2015-2017. Continuing his doctoral study titled “Iraqi architect Rifat Chadirji: World of Thought and Architecture” at the International Islamic University Malaysia, which he started in 2017. Since 2012, she has been the director of design studio in Turkey and abroad. She has been working as a lecturer at Samsun University Faculty of Architecture and Design since February 2020. His research interests are modern mosque architecture, architectural design, regional architecture and 20th century modern Arab thought and architecture.

Muhammet Talha Öksüzoğlu

1994 yılında İstanbul’da doğdu. İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi Mimarlık Bölümü’nden 2017 yılında mezun oldu. 2017-2019 yılları arasında Emine Öğün&Mehmet Öğün Mimarlık’ta çalıştı. 2019-2020 yılları arasında İstanbul Şehir Üniversitesi Mimarlık Fakültesi’nde araştırma görevliliği yaptı. 2019 yılında İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi Mimarlık Tarihi Bölümü’nde başladığı yüksek lisans eğitimine devam etmektedir. 2020 yılının Kasım ayından itibaren Samsun Üniversitesi Mimarlık Fakültesi’nde araştırma görevlisi olarak çalışmaktadır. Akademik ilgi alanı ‘Yapı Teknolojisi Tarihi’dir.

Mustafa Furkan Gündüz

He was born in Ankara, 1995. He graduated from Konya Selcuk University, Department of Architecture in 2018. He completed his master’s degree in Gazi University, Department of Architecture in 2022 with his thesis study titled “Investigation of the Use of Photovoltaic Panels in High-rise Buildings in the Context of Facade”. In the same year , he started his doctorade education at Gazi University Architecture Program. He took part in design, architectural project and construction site coordination tasks in projects completed incorporation of Samsun University Design, Architecture and Urban Studies Application and Research Center. He has been working as a Research Assistant at Samsun University, Faculty of Architecture and Design, Department of Architecture since February 2020. Field of his study; Construction and material, Use of Renewable Energy Systems in Architecture, Elements of construction.

Saadet Gündoğdu

Associate Head of Department of Architecture

She was born in Samsun in 1984. She graduated from Yıldız Technical University (YTU) Department of Architecture in January 2009. In September 2009, YTU Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences, Department of Architecture, Department of Survey-Restoration Program started. She completed her master’s degree in 2012 with her thesis titled ” Sinop Balatlar Construction Group Analytical Resolution and Protection Methods”. In the same year, She started his doctoral studies at YTU Survey-Restoration Program Branch in ” Management of Risks for Historic Environment in Mass Migration and Return Processes due to Human Induced Disasters at the turn of the 21st Century ” completed his doctoral thesis in April 2019.

She worked as a research assistant at Karabük University (KU) Department of Architecture from 2011 to 2013. She worked as an architect at the Building Audit Company, a private company in Karabük from 2014 to 2015. She worked as a part-time lecturer at KU from 2014 to 2016. She worked as a researcher in the TÜBİTAK research project titled ” Plural Heritages of Istanbul: The Case of the Land Walls” at Istanbul Bilgi University from June 2018 to March 2019. Since 2010, she has been working in the archaeological excavation team of “Istanbul/ Beykoz Yoros Castle” and “Sinop Balatlar Church”.
Dr. Gündoğdu’s research focuses on conservation of architectural heritage, industrial heritage, cultural landscapes/ historical environment, archaeological sites, disaster risk management, protection of cultural heritage in times of war/conflict, impact of mass migration on cultural heritage. Since 2019, she has been working as a Assistant Professor at Samsun University, Faculty of Architecture and Design, Department of Architecture.

Sedat Akdoğmuş
Research Assistant | Department of Industrial Design

He graduated from Mardin Artuklu University, Department of Architecture in 2014. He completed his internship at Öğün Mimarlık in 2012 and at Kreatif Mimarlık in 2013. Between 2014-2016, he took part in various project works, especially the hospital, at Kreatif Mimarlık. In 2019, he completed his master’s degree at Fatih Sultan Mehmet Foundation University with the thesis “Construction-Construction Concepts in the Thought of Turgut Cansever and Architectural Detail in the Building of the Turkish Historical Society”. In the same year, he started his doctorate education in the History of Architecture program of Istanbul Technical University. He worked as a research assistant at Istanbul Şehir University Architecture Department between 2018-2020. He has been working as a research assistant at Samsun University Faculty of Architecture and Design as of February 2021.

Some of his academic works are: One Building Three Layers: 16 Years of Turgut Cansever through the Design Layers of Ankara Turkish Historical Society Building (1951-67) (National Design Days Symposium with Halil İbrahim Duzenli, “Design and Layering”, 2019). Sevcan Ekmekçioğlu
Lecturer | Department of Industrial Design

She graduated from Istanbul Technical University, Department of Industrial Product Design in 2009. In her undergraduate education, she studied for a semester at Gothenburg University, Design and Craft Academy, Design department with the Erasmus exchange program. After graduation, she started to work in the furniture industry after doing yacht design and interior design in various companies. She worked as a designer in the design team of Enza furniture  for 2 years and then Doğtaş- Kelebek furniture for 6 years. She completed the ITU Industrial Design Master’s program, which she started during her working life, with her thesis on the design input of social entrepreneurship projects. Shortly after she started her freelance career, she started ITU Industrial Design doctorate program, she studies social impact on her thesis . Nowaday she has been working as a lecturer at Samsun University, Faculty of Architecture and Design, Department of Industrial Design since 2019.

She graduated from Özyeğin University, Faculty of Architecture and Design, Department of Architecture in 2017. She completed her master’s degree in 2022, at Bursa Technical University, Department of Urban Design, with her thesis titled “Evaluation of The Socio- Economic Segregations in Urban Space Through Gated Communities: Bursa Biaport Residences”. She is continuing her doctorate education at Gazi University, Department of Architecture, which she started in the same year. She graduated from Delft University of Technology, Faculty of Architecture and Built Environment, Department of Architecture in 2010. She completed her master’s degree at the same university within the Department of Urbanism with the thesis entitled “Bridging the Bulevar: Transforming the Former Frontline in Mostar, by Using the Existing Network of Public Space in the City“. Between 2013 and 2015, she worked as a lecturer at the International University of Sarajevo, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Department of Architecture. She has started her doctorate program at Istanbul Technical University, Department of City and Regional Planning in 2016 and completed her research in 2022 with the thesis entitled “Cultural Encounters of Ethnic Identities: An Ethnographic Study Of Belonging in the Urban Landscape Of Sarajevo“. She worked as a research assistant at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University, Faculty of Architecture and Fine Arts, Department of Architecture between 2017-2022. Since March 2023, she is a faculty member at Samsun University, Faculty of Architecture and Design.

Her research areas are: urban sociology, social research methods in urban studies, socio-spatial models in public space, divided and multicultural cities and societies, post-war rehabilitation, migration studies.

Vedia Derda Taşar

She graduated from the Technical University of Vienna, Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning, Department of City and Regional Planning in 2010. Her Master‘s thesis, titledImplementation Problems in Protective Development Plans: The Case of Mardin Old City Center,” was completed at Bahçeşehir University, Department of Urban Systems and Transportation Management in 2013. She completed her PhD at Mardin Artuklu University, Department of Architecture, with her thesis titledThe City in the Network Society: The Examples of Kadikoy, Fatih and Sultanbeyli in 2018. Her academic research interests are network society and network cities, urban sociology, urban history, and urban theories. She continues to work as a member at Samsun University, Faculty of Architecture and Design, Department of Architecture.

Zeyneb Ayla Kirenci Eruzun
Research Assistant | Department of Architecture

She graduated from Trakya University, Department of Architecture in 2014. In 2018, she completed her master’s degree at Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakif University, Department of Architecture, with her thesis titled “Boyabat and Traditional House Architecture – The Case of Çay Mahallesi”. She is continuing her PhD education at Yildiz Technical University Architectural Design Program, which she started in 2018. In 2016-2017, she worked as an architect in the IBB Directorate of Cultural Heritage Preservation, in the inventory of historical buildings in Istanbul. Between 2017-2020, she worked as a research assistant at Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakif University, Department of Architecture, in architectural design and urban design studios, and in various commissions. As of 2020, she continues her academic studies as a research assistant at Samsun University, Department of Architecture. Her academic interests including; architectural education, cognitive science, neuro-architecture, architecture and environmental psychology, traditional architecture.
