To our students…

Architecture is a practice of building that starts with the adventure of humanity, where the historical and spatial accumulation and transformations of the society and the city can be read concretely. Comprehending this accumulation within its own framework, grasping its details and reinterpreting it is the motivation behind the architectural education. Whereas the profession of architecture contributes to perform project design and construction activities, which has an essential role in the development of the country, it is crucial that architects with a profound understanding of the city and society and enriched qualifications are included in working life.

Samsun University, Faculty of Architecture and Design, Department of Architecture aims to train future architects who are able to establish a particular relationship with matter and material, and who have the knowledge of both matter and theory. To acquaint the ancient accumulation and current values of the dynamic professional knowledge -which is changing, transforming and constantly flowing from one place to another throughout history-; to attempt producing unique interpretations; to understand people in motion, time and space, is, ultimately as a reflection of architecture and design skills to the moment and place, among the objectives of the program.

All disciplines of social, natural and applied sciences at Samsun University are utmost supporters of the Architecture Department in terms of visioning, comprehending and (re)interpreting the historical accumulation. The Common Courses Program that all undergraduate students can obtain, the “Design, Architecture and Urban Studies Center”, the “Thought and Art Studies Center” and various workshops in the fields of art, social, natural and applied sciences are other provided additional advantages of the program that carry architecture students to a significant position in their professional lives. Noteworthy to mention the cooperation and partnerships to be made with various departments of the faculties of “Aviation and Space Sciences” and “Engineering” located on the Ballıca Campus, which is an important industrial heritage with exceptionally high spatial qualities and potentials.

I would like to welcome our future colleagues who will join us.
